Since our move in on Christmas Eve the kitchen is the one room that we have put the most work into and was also the one that needed the most love. The before’s speak for themselves and the afters are a mix of DIY and pinterest inspiration. For reference the before photos are sprinkled in.
January where did you come from and where did you go?
December is more and more becoming a month full of places to go and people to see. My December was full of fun parties with really good people and of course delicious food and drinks.
One thing about Christmas that I love are my family’s Christmas traditions. This year my Ma started a new one- using my niece to create some really fun Elf on the Shelf photos for instagram.
Other Christmas favorites include: my parent’s annual Posada party, our semi-formal Christmas eve dinner at my Aunt’s house in Laurelhurst- this year marked 29 years of her hosting the glorious dinner, Christmas day at my parent’s house and our traditional tamale dinner, and of course our secret santa exchange with the cousins. This year I scored adorable vintage water glasses from my cousin Juan.
Another exciting December event is that we finally moved into our new house. My Christmas wish was that we would be there by Christmas and it just worked out that our first night in the house was Christmas Eve.
One of the perks of my job is traveling with some of my favorite people. The first week in December we had a team trip to Palm Springs- sounds heavenly right??? It was actually an average of 50 degrees each day. But the scenery and people made up for the low temps. Highlights were of course team bonding and on the last morning visiting the Parker Hotel and having some quality time with two of my favorites: Elaine & Meredith.
One thing I have learned about myself is that I really enjoy entertaining. When we lived in the condo I had an annual cookie party with girlfriends in December. We would all decorate and exchange cookies while drinking hot apple cider. It was not the most glamourous of gatherings but it was an excuse to get together and be festive. Since moving out of the condo and being in our weird housing limbo I have been looking for a reason to host a party.
Thanksgiving weekend provided the perfect opportunity. Some of my best and brightest were in town and Mike’s parent’s large empty house provided the prime location. The menu was easy and delicious, it was a potluck brunch so each girl was able to show off her talents: quiches, champagne, mango juice, salads and baked french toast.
Can’t wait to do it again, but this time at the new house! Thanks for joining girls.
November has my most favorite holiday- Thanksgiving. We had an early Thanksgiving break and headed down to Mexico to holiday with the McGraths. We traveled Thanksgiving day back home to Portland just in time to celebrate the holiday with my family out at the farm.
Additional November highlights include:
Yesterday Mike and I had the chance to spend the day at Disneyland! My cousin Carlos works for ABC and was able to help us out with tickets- thank you Carlos! Mike had not been to disney since he was little- six years old or something, I was last at Disney maybe ten years ago with my family. I am a really big fan of the Disney amusement parks, so I was really happy to get the chance to expose Mike to all he has missed out on or forgotten the past 22 years.
We started the day at California Adventure park, favorites being California Screamin & Tower of Terror. We got a ‘celebrity spot’ by seeing Mad Men actress Kiernan Shipka who plays Sally Draper.
The rest of the day was spent at Disneyland meeting the characters and exploring it all! My legs are so sore from trekking what felt like miles around the park and my voice is a little hoarse from going crazy on the rides.
Entrance to the Magic Kingdom.
Mike conquering Splash Mountain after 22 years.
One of our three times on Splash Mountain. Lines after 9pm were nonexistent so we got to ride it without even getting out of the ride.
Look Brenner, I am a mouse!
All in all a super fun Sunday!
